VV-88 CORSAIR

Inspired by the latest vipers from Peter Morris and builder42.

Wow, it’s been a while. I miss Flickr, but school has been taking up most of my time, with friends and a couple of new games taking up the rest. I’ll try to keep posting, but I haven’t had time to build or photograph. Plus, I haven’t felt the “spark” with Lego for a while. Nothing I make seems worth posting :(

Onto the MOC. I built it to test whether I still had it, and I’m moderately satisfied with the result. I needed to make at least one Vic Viper for Nnovvember :P

My first Vic Viper, something classic for Novvember 2011.

The Mercenary Falke was built by the Mercenaries to be their answer to Shutoral air superiority. It was an anti-gravity vehicle, and was helped along by the crash landing of the Shutoral experimental Firefly craft, but was greatly improved upon. For a start, the Shutoral anti-grav engine gave out harmful pulses that interfered with the human body. The Mercenary engine didn’t have such problems.
Some three months after the crash landing of the Firefly, the Falke was ready for testing. The test flight of June 14th, 2885 was done in the presence of the Mercenary Air Marshal, who was so impressed with what he saw that he ordered the immediate mass production of some 500 units for the forthcoming Operation ‘Super Hammer’ which was to be started in September. Unfortunately, when September came forth, only a handful of planes had been completed, and the operation was delayed. Manoeuvres had already started though, and the Operation had to be started on the 23rd September with only a hundred Falke’s in service.
Due to these delays, Shutoral spy satellites spotted the manoeuvres and the operation was halted half way and deemed a failure.

The Falke was built of the same super ceramic armour that coated the SAFS, and in addition also carried the same indirect sighting system. Pilots loved the aircraft, which had good performance and heavy armour, but felt that the 2.3 cm gun wasn’t powerful enough. As a result of this, some ten Falke’s was built with a laser system. This was more powerful and more accurate than the 2.3 cm cannon, but being a laser, it was very susceptible to atmospheric conditions and more often failed due to fog, cloud and water vapour in the atmosphere. No more laser armed Falke’s were built, and the next production batch of aircraft were to be built with a 35 mm gatling machine gun instead.

If the Falke had a problem, it was with the stabilisers at the rear of the aircraft. They were too fragile and could be damage quite easily by enemy fire.

Well I have to say that I have never been more pleased with how a model has turned out. It was really fun to take an old MOC and totally revamp it…crazy to see how many things I do differently now. Certainly made it a bit trickier working within the constraints of dark green. And figured that since I had already broken the bank ordering the dark green parts that I may as well go for broke and order the nose art stickers as well :)

Compare to my original Falke

The Viper-M is a private gunship rumoured to be financed by the M-Tron logistics company. The pilot, one Micheal Paladin often intervenes in unusual ways, sometimes using the weapons on his vehicle, but just as often using direct intervention and espionage tactics.

M-Tron admit Mr Paladin used to work for them, but their records show he died in a Blacktron attack over ten years ago. The spacesuit worn by Mr Paladin is a standard M-Tron 2 spacesuit, very common. M-Tron deny any other links to him. The M-Tron Foundation for Peace and Wellbeing also deny any link, though no one recalls asking them…

The wackiest thing I’ve ever built? Maybe not… but it’s definitely close. Didn’t work out how I had planned (and the photo doesn’t do it justice), but I really wanted to post something.

Vet Steele is known, for his egotism and flamboyance. His ship, Avid Steele (named after himself) is the most deluxe vessel available. Modified for his own purposes, it’s certainly a formidable craft. Vet Steele is now also for his extravagance, which explains why he only pursues the bounties with the largest reward.

Unlike my other builds where I thoroughly plan it out, this was pretty spontaneous. I started the very rear section and the rest just followed.

Last one of these microspace builds I’ve had laying around for a couple of years. Promise the next MOC will be Mini-fig scale!

My Contribution to Creations For Charity 2011

I was gonna do something a bit more posh (i.e. multiple suits in a larger dio), but then I figured I would go with a classic…the Fireball was always one of my favourites. And I always loved the way Ma.K model builders would pose a space type suit among some slab of debris. I think I captured that look pretty decently. :)
